Yipit + Foursquare
Project: Come up with a minimum-viable product to test Yipit's hypothesis that an integration with Foursquare might be an interesting way to grow their users.
Approach: We decided to test out a "secret beta" that invited a subset of Yipit's known foursquare users to connect their foursquare account to Yipit to get notified of any deals at places their friends checked in.
We sent a small batch of invites to 1,000 Yipit members to test the product we'd designed and far-exceeded performance goals and resulting in 247 members connecting their Yipit accounts to Foursquare, and then going on to convince 142 of their Foursquare friends to join Yipit!
This beta test was quickly rolled out to all of Yipit's members that were using Foursquare resulting in thousands of additional users during a time when user-acquisition was a key success metric.
